Robots at Midnight Preview
One of the games that impressed us at PAX East all those months ago was Robots at Midnight. To quote it’s Steam page, it “is a fast-paced and stylish punchy souls-like with tough, rewarding combat that welcomes newcomers to the genre and challenges even the masters.” If the Souls games had a version of easy to learn, difficulty to master, Robots at Midnight would be that game. Essentially, you do not need to be as patience and mistakes are not as costly as you would find in the standard Souls game.
Although we could not make it out to Germany for Gamescom this year (or any year; who are we kidding?), we did have an opportunity to play the latest demo. Zoe, our protagonist, awakes in a pod that has crash landed after 20 years. Her companion robot is non-functioning and she must first find a way to fix it. A few friendly robots are willing to guide you where to go but the majority of the robots are hostile and do not take kindly to “softies” (what they call humans). As you play, you are constantly warned about finding shelter before midnight. After several mini-bosses and a cosplaying baseball player robot, midnight does hit, and in a scene right out of The Sopranos, the demo ends.
WHAT HAPPENS AT MIDNIGHT?!?!?!!
