Games we found that we really think you should keep An eye on #1
Even if you follow all the big Twitter profiles, read all the gaming sites, and regularly check the front page of every storefront, it can be easy to miss out on some upcoming games, especially smaller studio ones or indies. We may not catch them all either but we figured we could share some that caught our eye.
If you do have access to a PC, Steam is arguably the best place because there are opportunities throughout the year to try out demos before making a purchase. From the recent Steam Next Fest, here are three games on our radar:
The Knight Witch from Super Mega Team
The Knight Witch is a side-scrolling, card based, shoot ‘em up set in a metroidvania world. Cards (that can be swapped) dictate special abilities that are used as you battle foes and explore the world. It is an interesting melding of multiple genres that works really well. The Knight Witch is slated for a November 29, 2022 release on PC and consoles. Check out some gameplay below:
Soulstone Survivors from Game Smithing Limited
Vampire Survivors took the world by storm early this year and showed tremendous staying power with constant updates. Obviously, anything evoking that name is going to draw stark comparisons. A similar type game this year was 20 Minutes Till Dawn which took the formula but introduced different weapons (gun types) that drastically changed up the playstyles. Soulstone Survivors takes this change and turns it up to 11. The major difference here is not just weapons but actual classes. For example, the Barbarian had a whirlwind ability that required up close and personal combat while the spellcaster could rain devastation from afar. With an art style reminescient of Torchlight and the familiar gameplay of Vampire Survivors, this could be one of the games that captures that “one more run” feeling. Soulstone Survivors is set for a November 7, 2022 release on PC. Check out some gameplay below:
Gunbrella from doinksoft and published by Devolver Digital
Sometimes, genres call to us. Michaela loves JRPGs and I cannot refuse a good roguelite. Sometimes, game descriptions speak even louder. How does an umbrella that is also a gun that can be used to dash, float and/or zipline around sound? If that alone does not do it for you, here’s some gameplay footage of Gunbrella which only has a 2023 release window, for now, to hold you over.
