Easter Eggs We Found in the Borderlands Movie Trailer

We are huge fans of the Borderlands series around here so of course we were excited to hear that the Borderlands movie trailer was dropping today.

How many times have we watched the trailer? Yes

Of course, there are plenty of obvious references to the games throughout like Bandits, Pandoran wildlife including skags and Rakks, and the main characters but there are quite a few, “blink and you will miss it” easter eggs that we found littered about the almost 3-minute trailer.

Note: we have no confirmation of what we saw and we may have missed a few things but we only watched it a billion times so far

Claptrap: “Would you look at that, a ladder! Unfortunately, my design doesn’t facilitate this type of-”

Anyone who has played Borderlands 2 probably remembers, “Stairs?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

This was a cool inclusion of one of the longer-running jokes from the series.

“So, you want to hear a story?”
The bus driven by Marcus at the beginning of Borderlands 1 sets the stage and introduces the player to the four vault hunters, Lilith, Roland, Mordecai, and Brick. We know that Lilith and Roland are starring in the film but perhaps we might see Mordecai and Brick at some point.

This shot has a few things that might have been missed:

On Tannis’ (Jamie Lee Curtis) screen you can see a vault key which is hilariously labeled as Eridian Pottery. The minimap in the upper right corner of that screen is very similar to the one in-game while playing although we could not figure out if it was an actual location from any of the games. Over Tannis’ left shoulder is a vault symbol and this might be a reach but private locker made us think about her room on Sanctuary when you first meet her in Borderlands 2 and you can loot about 8 or so lockers for cash and ammo.

The guy on the left is from the trailer. The guy on the right is Mouthpiece from Borderlands 3. While Mouthpiece is a follower of the Calypso twins in the game, he may just be another bandit on Pandora in the movie.

The infamous Vladof Infinity pistol! The Lilith/Cate Blanchett movie poster also confirms this in that you can see the infinity symbol along the barrel. Hopefully this means more of the iconic weapons show up in some form.

Could these weird hologram masks be a nod to the New-U stations scattered throughout the game? That is what we are going with here.

“No refunds!” Everyone’s favorite arms dealer, Marcus, makes an appearance next to his own vending machine. Hopefully, some other NPCs make an appearance like Scooter, Dr. Zed, and Ellie.

Note: Ellie and Scooter are being played by Ryann Redmond and Stephen Boyer, respectively, but do not appear in the trailer.

This looks like a Nukem. A Torgue appearance would be even better but Tina holding the iconic rocket launcher works.

In Borderlands 2, Claptrap gave you a stolen one off of a dead body and in Borderlands 3, you could customize the case of it so it makes sense that we would see an ECHO communicator at some point in the movie.

Lilith took up the mantle Firehawk in Borderlands 2 and we see a similar display like this in Borderlands 3.

Everyone’s favorite bartender, Moxxi makes an appearance towards the end of the trailer. She will be played by Gina Gerson.

Lilith’s Phasewalk from Borderlands 1 in action. The trailer has some cuts but it appears she does this multiple times, once with Claptrap and the above, with the whole group.

I highly doubt this is a storyline in the movie but, if intended, a great little nod.

That’s all the less-than-obvious Easter Eggs we found but I am sure we will discover quite a bit more before the movie releases on August 9. Let us know in the comments if there are any we missed.
